Serving St Davids, Pembrokeshire and the surrounding communities with dignity and care.
If someone passes away at home, contact their GP or NHS 111 to have the death verified. If the death occurs in hospital or a care home, staff will guide you through the next steps. Once the death has been confirmed, you can call us — we’re available 24 hours a day to offer immediate support and begin arrangements.
A funeral can usually be arranged once the death has been registered and the necessary paperwork is in place. This often takes 7 to 14 days, but timing may vary depending on family wishes, availability, and legal requirements. We’ll work closely with you to plan the funeral at a time that suits you.
Before registering a death, a Medical Examiner must first review the case and issue the Medical Certificate of Cause of Death (MCCD). Once this is completed, you can book an appointment with the Register Office — in Pembrokeshire, this is typically the Haverfordwest Register Office. The death must be registered within 5 working days of the MCCD being issued. We’re here to guide you through each step with sensitivity and support.
Yes, of course. Whether you would prefer a traditional religious service, a humanist ceremony, or a completely personal celebration of life, we will help you create a meaningful and respectful farewell that reflects your loved one’s wishes and values.
We do. We can arrange both cremation and burial services across Pembrokeshire and beyond. We regularly assist families with arrangements at Parc Gwyn Crematorium in Narberth, as well as local cemeteries, churchyards, and natural burial sites.
Funeral costs vary depending on your choices — such as the type of service, coffin, transport, and additional options. At W G Bernard Mathias & Daughter, we are committed to transparent, fair pricing and can provide a full written estimate where requested.
We also offer a range of Golden Charter prepaid funeral plans, giving you the option to plan ahead, fix costs at today’s prices, and ease the burden on your family in the future.

Certainly. We can arrange local or national obituary notices, assist with floral tributes, and produce professionally designed orders of service.
We can also help you find a suitable venue for funeral teas, whether you prefer a local hall, hotel, or café. Let us know your preferences and we’ll take care of the arrangements with compassion and attention to detail.
While we are proudly based in St Davids, we serve families throughout Pembrokeshire and can also assist with funerals across Wales and other parts of the UK. Repatriation within the UK can be arranged where required — whether your loved one needs to be brought home or laid to rest in another region, we will manage all transport and logistics with care and professionalism.
We provide a dignified Volvo hearse as part of our standard service. If you would prefer something more traditional — such as a horse-drawn carriage — we can arrange this to suit your wishes.
We can also assist with hiring limousines for family and guests on the day of the funeral. Let us know your preferences and we’ll ensure transport arrangements are respectful, comfortable, and well-coordinated.
